Graduate Overview

The future is in collecting, analyzing, and communicating data with impact. The Department of Data and Decision Sciences (𝔻Sci) is committed to teaching students how to use data and AI to answer questions and solve problems in applied fields—from business and healthcare to academic research.

We offer a 12-month, in-person, STEM-designated Master’s in Data Science program, taught entirely by full-time faculty with expertise in all aspects of data science. Uniquely, our faculty represent a range of academic disciplines and interests, from statistics and computer science to the social and health sciences to the digital humanities.

Our curriculum focuses on three pillars of data science projects: gathering data, analyzing data, and making decisions and communicating results. You’ll take courses on advanced statistical modeling and contemporary data science topics and trends, statistical computing and AI-augmented programming, and rigorous instruction on study design, causal reasoning, and inference. You’ll enjoy ample hands-on practice using real-world data and work with community partners. Finally, you’ll cover theory and best practices on communicating your results with impact, be this through writing, data visualization, or public speaking. The program culminates in a Capstone Research Project that will be co-taught by two of the faculty. Teams of students work with community partners to produce solutions to real data-centered issues.
